Labour's Wyeth Hansen and Ryan Dunn
From DIY to Do It All
Thursday, February 18th, 2010
Knowlton Hall | The Ohio State University
If it feels like work, then it probably wasn't produced by Labour. The Brooklyn-based creative office blurs the line between media forms, moving effortlessly from producing music video to designing typefaces and forging brand identities. Collaborators Ryan Dunn and Wyeth Hansen epitomize what Designing Minds calls "the new face of do-it-all design," where it doesn't matter if you're using off-the-shelf video equipment or off-the-wall ideas. What matters is putting it all together with intriguing results.
Hansen and Dunn met at Rhode Island School of Design, then moved to New York City and a gig designing the AIGA Move3 conference package. They learned how to make music videos by making one for Mobius Band. And then they made another.
Labour's clients include Google, the Museum of Modern Art, MTV, and The New York Times Magazine online edition. On the way they've picked up Print magazine's New Visual Artists honors, an Art Directors Club Young Guns award and an Emmy nomination. Who knows what might happen before they arrive at OSU's Knowlton Hall February 18?
